This was the normal practice for us every Sunday, we would go to church and spend most of the day there. By the time church was finished we would be real hungry. I would be glad church was over so that I could go home, eat then probably take a nap. It was a long day for me, while I wasn't interested in staying in church all day. Some times my dad went with us to church. Although most of the time he stayed home to eat the food my mom had cooked. I wasn't to pleased with him on these occassions, which was pretty often. Due to the fact that may father didn't believe in going to church. He stayed home to sleep, read his paper and eat what my mom had cooked. That was his routine on Sundays.
I knew all to well what that meant for my mom's Sunday dinner. He would leave some food for us, but you could tell his hand had been in the pot. I really didn't like what he did by picking over our food like that. To this day he still goes into the pot while my mom is at church. Thankfully I don't have to deal with it anymore. I live in Florida, while they live in Maryland. I've never got into the practice of cooking food before I go to church. I usually get a snack when I get home from church. I eat later or I might buy something from a restuarant. It depends on what I want to do. This is just a reflection of how things were back in the day. Those were the days of long ago. Memories aren't they great.

I love the new look! You did a great job :)
ReplyDeleteSunday dinners are special to me, they are now anyway. Growing up I didn't go to church. My parents didn't take us to church, but I did learn about God in tid bits during my childhood. 6 years ago I gave my life to the Lord. It hasn't always been a smooth journey there are many bumps in the road but I wouldn't trade a second of it to have my old life back. We've started a Sunday Dinner habit. Every Sunday I have my parents over, sometimes my brother with his family and we have a family dinner together. It's a nice way to end the day and begin the new week.
Hope you have a blessed week!
Sunday dinners are the best dinners in the world. My dad would prepare our Sunday dinners for us while we was at church so when we got home we can sit down and eat. And fellowship later and enjoy our family time together. Even after we became adults we took over and we would prepare a Sunday dinner it's something about those meals on Sunday that meant so much.
ReplyDeleteNowadays not too many families do those Sunday dinners, everyone is going out and eating out and that is fine too but it's something about having meal at home and having people over to share the meal with you. We loved it.
I'm so inspired by both of your stories. I may start to cook again LOL. It's so great to hear your stories and how Sunday dinners bring back good memories. It's so important to have special times with our families. Thank you Luana & Desiray. God Bless you.
ReplyDeleteLuana,I appreciate your compliment about my new blog look.:)
